What Look Is Best for Me?
Finding the perfect hairstyle to complement your face shape can feel overwhelming, but don’t worry we’ve got you covered! Here are some tips to help you choose a look that’s guaranteed to make you shine on your big day.
- Round Face: If you have a round face, consider a sleek, Taraji P. Henson-inspired bob. This style highlights your best features while adding a touch of sophistication. Want to turn up the drama? Add some bold highlights for a sassy edge that will leave everyone in awe, especially your groom. It’s a modern, chic choice that’ll have you glowing with confidence.
- Heart-Shaped Face: For those with a heart-shaped face, draw inspiration from Ciara’s timeless elegance. Long locks paired with soft, loose curls or waves are the ultimate way to frame your face and enhance its natural beauty. Extensions are your best friend here, allowing you to achieve that effortless, romantic vibe. Ciara’s looks are a perfect guide for rocking a style that’s both flattering and glamorous.
- Oval Face: Brides with an oval face shape have the flexibility to play with multiple styles, but a collarbone-length cut or a classic bob is a standout choice. Want to add extra flair? Incorporate layers to create dimension and drama. Whether sleek or tousled, this look will beautifully balance your features while adding an air of sophistication.
No matter your face shape, there’s a style out there that will make you look and feel your best. The key is to choose a look that complements your natural beauty while showcasing your unique personality. Your wedding day is your moment let your hairstyle make it even more magical!

Half Up, Half Down
To create the perfect half-up, half-down hairstyle, you can choose to sew, glue, or use clip-in extensions whichever method suits you best. For a flawless finish, consider custom coloring your extensions to match your natural hair perfectly. Adding highlights? Yes, please! They’ll give your style an extra touch of sass and drama.
Let’s get started:
- Layer Extensions: Begin at the back of your head. Start with a four-clip extension for the first layer, part again, and add another four-clip extension. Follow with a three-clip extension, ensuring you blend the tracks seamlessly with your natural hair.
- Curl Extensions: Use a curling iron to create soft curls in the extensions as you install them. After curling each section, secure the curl with bobby pins to let it set.
Now, it’s time to work on the top:
3. Create the Topknot: Release the hair at the crown of your head. Gather it into a ponytail and secure it with a rubber band.
-
- If your hair is long enough, wrap the ends of your ponytail around its base to create a messy topknot.
- If not, clip extensions to the base of the ponytail and wrap the ends around to achieve the same look. Don’t forget to sleek those edges for a polished finish!
- Finish the Style: Once the curls at the base have set, remove the bobby pins, gently finger through the curls, and set the style with hairspray.
Now you’re all set to walk down the aisle looking stunning and ready to say “I do!”
Updo with Extensions
Start by combing through your hair to remove any tangles. Using a ⅝-inch or 1-inch curling wand, curl your hair in sections, securing each curl with a clip to let them set.
Begin with the back of your hair, curling small sections at a time. Once complete, move on to the midsection, repeating the same process. When you reach the crown of your head, curl the hair away from your face to ensure a seamless blend with your extensions.
Let your curls set for about 10 minutes to hold their shape especially if your hair, like mine, has its own personality and tends to resist curls (lol). After setting, remove the clips and prepare to install your extensions this is where the fun begins!
If you want to add some flair to your wedding look, consider using extensions with complementary colors. They can add depth and drama to your style without being overpowering. I personally love experimenting with color, so I’d definitely try it on my special day.
Clip-in extensions are perfect for achieving a quick and versatile look. Not only can you remove them after the ceremony or during your honeymoon for added comfort, but you can also pre-style them before installation. This makes it easier to achieve a flawless updo that blends beautifully with your natural hair no one will even know you’re wearing extensions!
With your hair styled and your extensions perfectly in place, you’ll be ready to stun on your big day!
Instructions
- Prepare Your Extensions: Start by curling your extensions with the same curling iron you’ll use on your natural hair. Make sure to curl them section by section for an even finish. Once all the extensions are curled, set them aside. These will be clipped in strategically later to add length, volume, or color, enhancing your overall look.
- Loosen the Curls: After curling both your natural hair and the extensions, gently run your fingers through the curls. This will create a soft, flowy, and natural appearance, making the curls look effortless. Avoid using a brush as it may disrupt the shape of the curls.
- Choose a Side to Highlight: Decide which side of your hair you want to highlight for a fuller look. For instance, if you want a more voluminous flow on the right side, start by twisting the left side. This step will help you balance the updo and create a polished look.
- Create the First Twist: On the side with less volume (e.g., the left), gather a section of hair near your temple. Use your fingers to maintain the natural wave of the curls. Gently twist this section inward toward your scalp and guide it toward the back midsection of your head. Secure this twist with a bobby pin, ensuring it stays in place without feeling too tight.
- Continue Twisting: Right below the first twist, gather another section of hair. Twist it gently and guide it upward to meet the end of the first pinned section. Secure this second twist with another bobby pin. At this point, you’ll start to see a continuous, elegant twist forming along the back of your head.
- Work on the Opposite Side: Move to the opposite side of your head. Take the front section of hair, keeping its natural wave intact, and twist it gently. Guide this section toward the back, where it will meet the previously pinned twists. Pin it securely in place. Now, your twists should create a seamless ridge running along the back of your head.
- Divide and Secure the Remaining Hair: By now, the pinned twists will create a natural ridge, dividing the remaining hair into two sections. Take the unpinned hair hanging from above your twists and gently lift it. Clip this section up temporarily to keep it out of the way while you work on the lower layers.
- Clip in Extensions for Volume: Take your curled extensions and clip them into the lower sections of your hair. Focus on areas where you want to add extra volume or length. Make sure the extensions blend seamlessly with your natural hair for a flawless look.
- Polish the Look: Once all twists and extensions are in place, gently loosen the curls with your fingers to achieve a soft, romantic finish. Use a small amount of hairspray to hold the style in place while maintaining its natural look.
- Final Touches: Smooth any flyaways with edge control or a light styling cream. If desired, add decorative hairpins or accessories to enhance the elegance of your updo. Ensure everything is secure, especially if you’ll be wearing a veil or additional accessories for the ceremony.
This step-by-step process will help you create a stunning, timeless updo perfect for your wedding day, ensuring you look radiant and picture-perfect as you walk down the aisle!
Adding the Clip-Ins
Take your curly clip-in extensions and secure them just above the twists you’ve created. These extensions will add the length and volume you’re aiming for, enhancing the overall elegance of your hairstyle.
When installing the clip-ins, you can place them side by side or layer them one on top of the other, depending on the look you want to achieve. The placement is entirely up to you and should complement your desired style.
At this point, the front and sides of your hair should already be pinned back into place. One bottom section (either left or right) should be pinned together with the other twists.
Your remaining loose hair should now be clipped up above the twists to keep it secure while styling. The extensions should blend seamlessly with the pinned twists that run across the midsection of your hair. Below these twists, the bottom portion of your hair should still be hanging loose, ready for the final styling touches.
Finishing It Off With Hairspray
Congratulations on making it this far you’re so close to having the perfect wedding hairstyle! Now let’s finish it off and lock in that beautiful, lasting look.
The key to making sure your curls stay intact all day (and night) is to use a reliable hairspray that’s designed for long-lasting hold. This will ensure your curls stay bouncy and full of life, even as you dance the night away. Opt for a hairspray that also provides flexibility, so your hair doesn’t feel stiff or weighed down.
To begin, take the top section of your hanging hair and gently pull it up, pinning it just above the twists. Style this section with a relaxed, soft shape, making sure it complements the rest of your style. You want the top section to flow seamlessly with the twists below, creating a harmonious, elegant look.
Then, take the bottom section of your natural hair and extensions, and gently pull it away from the twists. This is the side where you want to add volume, so avoid pinning it too tightly. Instead, let the hair flow naturally, with just enough lift to create fullness and balance the rest of your hairstyle.
As you pin the sections, use your intuition and eye to guide you. Don’t be afraid to experiment with the placement of the pins until you achieve the desired shape. The pinned sections should blend together effortlessly, creating one unified look. If the sections are too harshly divided, adjust them until they seamlessly flow into one another.
Once you’re satisfied with the shape and placement of your pinned hair, take a generous amount of holding spray and mist over your entire style. This will tame any flyaways or stray strands, ensuring that your style remains flawless throughout your special day.
And there you have it your beautiful, finished hairstyle! You’re ready to shine as you walk down the aisle, confident that your hair will stay perfect from the ceremony to the last dance. Congratulations on your big day, and enjoy every moment you’re going to look absolutely stunning!
High Bun for Mid-Length Hair
Start by straightening your hair and parting it at the back. Take your first clip-in extension (with four clips) and clip it in upwards, not downwards, as you’re aiming for a high bun, not a low one. Don’t worry if it looks a bit messy at first; it will all come together perfectly in the end.
Next, continue adding your clip-ins: a 4-clip extension for the midsection, a 2-clip extension for the crown, and a 1-clip extension for the front. Remember, each extension should be clipped upwards to blend seamlessly into your natural hair.
Once your extensions are in place, brush your hair upwards into the position where you want your bun. The beauty of using clip-ins is the flexibility it offers, allowing you to position your ponytail lower or to the side, depending on the look you prefer. Personally, I love placing mine high on top of my head for a chic, voluminous bun.
Gather all your hair into a ponytail using a rubber band. To create the bun, pull your ponytail partially through the twisties, securing it in place for a neat and voluminous high bun.
Completing Your Bun
By now, you should have a slight roll at the top of your head with the remaining portion of your ponytail hanging out beneath the rubber band.
To secure the roll (bun), use some holding spray to smooth down any flyaways and keep everything in place.
Once I’ve shaped the bun to my liking, I take the remaining portion of the ponytail and wrap it around the base of the bun. This adds more volume and helps to secure the bun’s structure.
I also like to use a few bobby pins to pin the bottom part of the bun, ensuring it stays stable throughout the day. This is especially important if you’re planning to wear a headpiece or veil for your wedding, as the bun needs to stay secure.
Finally, don’t forget to pay attention to your edges. Apply some eco-style gel or edge control to sleek them down for a polished finish. This step adds a refined touch and ensures your hairstyle stays neat all day long.
Achieving This Look With Natural Hair
If you have natural hair and want to achieve a high bun with the help of clip-ins (though you can also opt for glue-in or sew-in extensions), here’s how to prep your hair.
I always start by washing my hair to ensure it’s clean. I use Organix Coconut Shampoo, followed by their conditioner, once a week. Since I’m in the process of transitioning, I make sure to apply a good-quality oil like Argan oil to lock in moisture and keep my hair hydrated.
I pay extra attention to my ends but avoid over-applying oil because I don’t want my hair to look greasy. A quarter-sized amount works perfectly for me. After applying oil, I spray my hair with a heat protectant to shield it from the heat styling tools.
Next, I grab my blow dryer, paddle brush, and wide-tooth comb. I divide my hair into 1 to 1 ½-inch sections and start detangling, working from the ends of my hair towards the roots. Using the blow dryer on a low heat setting, I stretch my hair straight, pulling it taut with my hand as I dry the roots first.
Once the roots are dry, I switch to my paddle brush, position the blow dryer nozzle at the top of the brush, and “chase” my hair with the dryer to straighten it. The higher the heat setting, the straighter the hair will be.
When it comes to installing the clip-ins, I follow the same method as I would for mid-length hair. Finally, I smooth my edges using my favorite eco-style gel, applying it around the perimeter of my head. Be sure to brush through the edges for a sleek finish.
Straight Style Look
Start by parting your hair down the middle. Then, separate the section that you want to leave out to cover the tracks, which is your leave-out. Begin braiding your hair in a simple pattern, starting at the front. Braid the sides down, connecting the ends as you move toward the back. Depending on the thickness of your hair, you should have four to six braids on each side.
Next, braid the back of your hair straight down, creating six to eight braids. Once your braids are complete, grab your preferred extensions and get ready to install them. It’s best to install the extensions without cutting them to maintain the length and volume.
Start with the longest bundles and install them from back to front. For a sleek, glamorous look, I recommend starting with a 28-inch straight bundle. After installing the longest bundle, move on to the next longest one and continue until only your leave-out section remains.
Once all your bundles are in, straighten them for a polished, bone-straight look. Use a flat iron and a comb, chasing the comb with the flat iron to achieve smoothness.
Now, focus on your leave-out section. As you style it, make sure it blends seamlessly with your extensions. Add layers in the front by cutting at an angle, transitioning from shorter to longer lengths.
Finish the look with a light spritz of hairspray for extra sheen, control, and sleekness. And, of course, don’t forget to smooth your edges for a flawless finish!
Wavy Bob Look
Once your extensions are installed, it’s time to cut your hair into a slight asymmetrical bob. Decide how long you want the bob to be, keeping in mind that asymmetrical means the front will be longer than the back. If you’re hesitant about cutting your real hair, you can always opt for a cute bob wig for the look without the commitment.
To start, I recommend cutting your extensions a little longer than the desired length of your bob. This will give you room to reshape and style it exactly how you want. I prefer using clippers for a clean cut, as they help avoid tugging on the extensions and resulting in uneven strands.
Since this is a special occasion, it’s best to have someone help you trim your hair to ensure it’s even all around. Once the trim is done, brush through your hair to remove any tangles and separate it into two sections.
For the waves, use a curling iron or curling rod. To achieve a looser curl that resembles beach waves, don’t leave the heat on too long around 10 seconds per section works best. Move around the head without worrying about perfect curls, as this style is meant to look relaxed and effortless.
The beauty of this look is its natural, almost “accidental” wave. As you curl, you’ll see the waves form and come to life, giving your bob a beautiful, carefree vibe!
