One way to assess the quality of your hair extension bundles is by bleaching them to a 613 hair color. If you’ve worked with various vendors, you’ve likely encountered claims such as, “can be bleached to #27” or “can be bleached lighter than #27, but not to 613.” When you inquire about the reasoning behind this, they may provide misleading explanations. Are you curious about why reaching a 613 shade isn’t possible? Keep reading to find out.
What is 613 Hair Color ?
The 613 hair color is also known as Blonde or Light Blonde, and it’s sometimes referred to as snow white or baby blonde, serving as an alternative to #60.
Unprocessed Raw Hair is the best choice for achieving 613 hair because it bleaches well and maintains its natural elasticity and cuticles.
Bleaching to 613: The Importance of Hair Cuticles
The bleaching process employs harsh chemicals that can be quite damaging to hair. It tends to thin the strands, diminish their natural elasticity, and increase the likelihood of breakage. When aiming to achieve a 613 blonde, starting with thick, healthy, unprocessed hair is essential.
The bleaching limit for your hair extensions occurs when they lose their natural elasticity; once they can no longer stretch, they are prone to breakage. Checking for elasticity is straightforward: hold a healthy strand of hair with both hands about 3 inches apart and gently pull. If the hair stretches, it retains its elasticity. In contrast, processed hair tends to be damaged and more fragile, making it easier to break. For a clearer understanding of this process, you can refer to video demonstrations available online.
Why Some Hair Only Reaches Color 27 When Bleached
We reached out to several vendors to understand why their hair can only be bleached to a 27 shade, using a +1 US phone number, and received various explanations.
Some claimed, “The hair has more melanin,” while others insisted, “The hair color is closer to #1, making it more challenging to bleach,” or “Hair from multiple donors can only reach 27, while single-donor hair can be bleached to 613.” Such claims often reveal the truth: you might be purchasing processed floor hair instead of unprocessed, cuticle-aligned hair.
For instance, my own hair closely resembles color 1, and I’ve successfully bleached it alongside our raw orange line hair bundles. The result? Both types reached a beautiful 613 blonde. Previously, bundles with white rubber bands were identified as our “Orange Line.” The issue with processed hair from floor sources is that it is usually mixed and can contain strands from up to 50 different donors, resulting in a “50 shades of black” scenario. This is why it often turns into a uniform black color when dyed.
Processing restricts how well hair can be bleached because the process damages the hair structure. When hair that has already been processed is bleached again, it can become over-processed, leading to shedding before lighter shades are achieved. Additionally, if the hair has been dyed, this can complicate the bleaching process, as removing dye is more challenging than stripping the hair’s natural melanin.
How to Test for Color Without Bleaching
If you want to determine if your hair is colored without conducting a bleaching test, you can perform a scrape test. This test may identify colored floor hair, but it is not sensitive enough to detect slightly processed “raw” hair. Alternatively, the acetone test can help you ascertain whether the hair has been colored, regardless of the extent of any dye application.
Why Some Hair Can Be Bleached to 613
When you cut hair from the head of an Asian girl who has never dyed her hair, it will bleach to a beautiful 613 shade. This principle applies to all unprocessed Asian hair, whether sourced from a single donor or multiple donors. Even when combined from various sources, the hair will still reach a blonde hue. Therefore, hair from a single donor is not inherently superior to that from multiple donors.
I Bleached It to 613! Does That Mean It’s High-Quality Hair?
Not necessarily! Factories can bleach dyed hair to achieve the #613 shade. Some clients who primarily purchase processed hair may also be able to achieve this result. You could be one of the few professionals capable of doing so.
There is a significant difference between unprocessed, cuticle-aligned hair and floor hair. Poorly sourced raw hair, as well as a mix of these types, can often achieve the 613 color.
Before conducting a bleach test, it’s wise to wash the hair first to observe whether it becomes frizzy. This can serve as a valuable initial indicator of how damaged the hair is, providing insights into its quality.
Important Details About the Bleaching Test
Common mistakes often occur during the bleaching test. Here are two frequent errors to watch out for:
- Bleaching Time: 100% unprocessed raw hair typically takes longer to reach the 613 shade than processed “raw” hair or floor hair. Processing removes some of the hair’s melanin, allowing it to bleach 4-5 times faster. Therefore, the bleaching process is more akin to a marathon than a sprint. If you’ve bleached the hair for 30 minutes and it only reaches a color level of 27, don’t be alarmed. Simply reapply the bleach and try again. Continue this process until the hair begins to lose its elasticity, which indicates that it has reached its true limit.
- Preparation of the Bleach Mixture: Many individuals make errors when preparing the bleaching mixture. Clients frequently forget to include one of the two essential ingredients, a mistake that happens more often than you might think.
What 613 Bundle Pictures Reveal About Hair Quality
Healthy 613 bundles exhibit a wheat-like appearance; they are not overly shiny and have a more diffused look.
In contrast, 613 hair made from processed floor hair often gives the impression that a yellow-shine spray has been applied to the strands. Such hair typically appears very yellowish and overly shiny, indicating inferior quality.
It’s important to note that the appearance of the hair may vary from one picture to another. However, floor hair does not bleach to the desirable wheat-like 613 shade. Instead, it usually results in a bright, artificial yellow hue.
There is some flexibility in interpretation here, as most Asian hair is naturally straight and requires steam styling to achieve different textures. When 613-colored hair is exposed to heat, it can take on a yellower tone.
Excessive shine is often a sign of poor quality and potential damage, which can lead to frizziness. To enhance the appearance of such hair, some manufacturers apply silicone, giving it a superficial glossy finish.
When evaluating pictures, it’s best to focus on straight textures, as these are less likely to have been subjected to high heat. Additionally, if you’re considering Indian hair, keep in mind that it tends to be finer than Chinese hair, which means it has less resilience to the processing needed to achieve the 613 color. If your goal is to obtain high-quality 613 hair, it’s advisable to steer clear of hair types that originate from naturally wavy textures.
