How to use hair extensions for mega volume

Achieving that Dolly Parton-level hair volume often takes a lot of effort—endless heat styling, layering on products—only for your hair to go flat as the day goes on. Ever wonder how celebrities keep their hair looking voluminous and flawless all day and night?

Here’s the secret: hair extensions.

What Are the Different Types of Hair Extensions 5

That’s right! From short to long hairstyles, celebrity stylists have been using hair extensions to give their clients incredible volume and lift. Those gravity-defying lobs? Hair extensions. Those gorgeous curls that never lose their bounce? Hair extensions. And those thick, stunning braids you can’t seem to recreate at home? Hair extensions, strategically placed to add volume and thickness.

When people think of hair extensions, they often associate them with adding length. But what if you’re primarily dealing with thin hair and just want to boost your volume? Or perhaps you love your current hair length but want to bring some life into your style? The beauty of hair extensions is that they can be tailored to address your unique hair needs. Not interested in adding length? No problem!

Recognising that not everyone desires mermaid-length locks, we’ve introduced a 16″ option in our hair extension collection. Weighing in at 140g, the 16″ extensions are the perfect addition to enhance your lob or medium-length hair, providing that extra volume without compromising on length.

If you already own a set of our Classic 20″ HazuHair extensions but prefer to embrace your shorter hair, you can still make them work for you. When using extensions solely for volume, the 20″ extensions might end up longer than your natural hair unless you have exceptionally long hair already.

Since all HazuHair extensions are crafted from 100% Remy human hair, they can be cut or trimmed just like your natural hair, without compromising the integrity of the wefts. Simply snip the extensions to match your hair’s length for a voluminous look. While we recommend having a professional handle the trimming, if you’re comfortable with hairstylist scissors (and careful, as they are sharp!), you can do it yourself at home. Just make sure your scissors are as sharp as possible for a clean and smooth cut—dull scissors can bend the hair instead of cutting it, resulting in a choppy appearance.

How to Use Hair Extensions for Mega Volume

Using HazuHair extensions to achieve mega volume is a fantastic option, as they can be applied to any hair type. Whether you have a lob, average thickness, or medium-length hair, you can easily create big, voluminous locks in just a few minutes—without adding length and without damaging your natural hair.

All it takes is a few snips and some strategic clipping, and you’ll be well on your way to enjoying luscious, voluminous hair!

How to Trim Your Hair Extensions

Trimming your extensions isn’t always necessary for the entire set. Depending on your hair type, just a few wefts might significantly enhance the thickness of your hair. However, if you’re aiming for mega volume, feel free to trim your full set!

How to trim your hair

Step 1: Straighten Your Hair

As HazuHair extensions are crafted from 100% Remy human hair, they come naturally straight. To achieve a seamless blend, we recommend straightening your hair to match the texture of the extensions before cutting them. This will ensure that the length you trim the extensions to is accurate; otherwise, they may appear shorter than expected once styled.

Step 2: Trim Your Extensions Weft by Weft

To trim your hair extensions so they match your natural hair length, clip in your HazuHair extensions one weft at a time and trim the excess length as you go. This approach is more precise than cutting a large chunk at once. Patience is essential! If your hair is layered, follow the layers’ lengths, trimming each weft slightly shorter as you move higher on your head.

Step 3: Feather the Ends

To ensure your trimmed wefts look natural, start by cutting the hair horizontally to keep the weft straight, leaving it about half an inch longer. Next, angle your scissors and snip vertically along the edges to feather the ends. This technique helps the weft blend seamlessly with your hair, avoiding a blunt cut that doesn’t reflect how natural hair grows.

And that’s it! Your hair extensions are now perfectly aligned with your natural hair length, ready to be clipped in whenever you want to add extra volume for a night out or everyday wear.

What If Your Hair Is Longer Than 20 Inches?

If your hair exceeds 20 inches, you’re in a fantastic position! In this case, you can simply clip in your HazuHair extensions straight out of the box to enhance volume without adding length. Even if your hair is an inch or two longer than the extensions, the additional wefts will effectively boost thickness and fullness without making the length too obvious.

What If You Need More Thickness Than a Full Set of HazuHair Extensions?

You’re in luck! If you have naturally thick hair and need even more volume, we offer a Volumizer Weft specifically for such situations. Our Volumizer Weft includes a 4-clip weft that is 7 inches long and contains 45 grams of hair. This weft can serve as a supplemental addition to your existing HazuHair set for an extra dose of thickness.

If you only want a slight increase in volume, you can wear the Volumizer Weft on its own. If your hair is shorter than 20 inches, make sure to trim the weft according to the instructions provided earlier to ensure it blends seamlessly with your hair for that added volume. For those with hair measuring 20 inches or longer, simply clip the Volumizer Weft at the crown for enhanced thickness.

Hair extensions are a versatile accessory, allowing you to enhance your look in a natural way – not just for adding dramatic length. Even those with shorter hair can join in on the fun!

Want to Add Even More Volume? Here Are Some Extra Tips to Elevate Your Hair Game

Use a Volumizing Shampoo

Opt for shampoos with volumizing formulas that lighten hair, lift it from the roots, and open up the hair cuticle to create the appearance of thicker strands. To achieve a fluffy look, choose a shampoo with lightweight conditioning ingredients that rinse out easily. Avoid super creamy formulas if you have fine hair, as they can weigh your locks down, resulting in a flat style. Always select products that are free from sulfates, alcohols, and silicones.

Incorporate Texturizing Spray and a Touch of Dry Shampoo

Michael Duenas, who styles Noah Cyrus’ signature weightless yet texturized hair, recommends this trick: before blow-drying, spray a texturizing spray on wet hair, followed by a bit of dry shampoo for extra weightless hold. Proceed with your blow-drying routine and watch your hair achieve a magical lift!

Master the Salon Blowout at Home

Few things rival the feeling of leaving the salon with a fresh blowout. Notice how voluminous and bouncy your hair looks after a professional blow-dry? This is thanks to hairstylists mastering the technique! Invest some time in learning how to blow out your hair at home using a large barrel round brush for that perfect, voluminous finish. Flip Your Hair Over While Blow-Drying

This age-old trick is one of the simplest ways to achieve instant volume. If you haven’t quite perfected the salon blowout yet, try flipping your hair upside down while blow-drying. Finish with a blast of cold air to lock in your style before flipping your hair back. Voilà! Instant volume.

Tease Your Roots

While the 80s may have passed, big, voluminous hair is forever in style. Although hair teasing has gotten a bad rap due to overzealous teasing in the past, gently backcombing at the roots can quickly add lift. Additionally, if you have fine hair and struggle with your extensions slipping, teasing your roots can provide extra grip for the clips.
